Free official webinar on 28 October 2026
The official portal Make it in Germany lists a free online webinar, “Opportunity Card for Germany: Requirements & How to Apply,” on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, from 15:00 to 16:00 German time. The webinar is in English and places are limited. Check the official page for registration.
What is the Opportunity Card?
The Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) may allow qualified nationals of countries outside the EU and EFTA to enter Germany to look for qualified employment. It is initially issued for up to one year. While searching, holders may work part-time for up to 20 hours per week in total and undertake trial work for up to two weeks with each employer, subject to the applicable rules.
Main requirements in 2026
There are two routes: a professional or university qualification fully recognised in Germany, or at least six points under the points system. Applicants using the points route must have completed vocational or academic training recognised in the country where it was obtained; non-academic vocational training must generally have lasted at least two years. They must also prove German at A1 level or English at B2 level. This language proof is not required for the fully recognised qualification route, although German can improve job prospects.
Both routes require sufficient funds. The official 2026 reference amount is €1,091 net per month; depending on the case, this may be shown through a blocked account or a declaration of commitment. Documents and procedures depend on individual circumstances and the responsible German mission.
